In this painting I used my signature style of Plastic Space to create an adventure. The mirror holds the reflections of three distinct generations of her past ancestry. Her African ancestor wears the traditional hair arrangement, facial and body scarification and jewelry using cowry shells and bead work. Her American Slave ancestor wears a head wrap, chains replace the jewelry, and the cloth is Eurocentric plaid. The young lady looking into the mirror is the result of her ancestors’ trials and survival. She wears pearls and clothing of her own free choosing. Her hair style has come full circle, proudly wearing the traditional braids of her ancestors.
